Terms Conditions

  1. You must be of legal age to drive and produce a valid UK/Northern Ireland provisional Category B driving licence.  If a photo card licence is held, then both card and counterpart must be produced. If an older paper licence is held, then you must also produce a valid passport as photographic identification. For Motorway, Pass Plus or Refresher lessons a full valid licence must be produced with identification as above.
  2. You must meet the minimum eye test requirements, which means you must be able to read a standard UK approved number plate at a minimum distance of 20.5 metres (67 feet).  If you need to wear glasses or contact lenses in order to meet this requirement then you must wear them whenever you drive.
  3. You must notify your instructor of any change of your ability or entitlement to have driving tuition, for example if your provisional licence has been revoked or for medical reasons such as epilepsy.
  4. If you wish to cancel a lesson, a minimum of 48 hours’ notice must be given.  Failure to give 48 hours’ notice will the result in the lesson(s) booked, having to be paid for in full. Lessons can be cancelled by telephone or text message but MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED BY YOUR INSTRUCTOR, as electronic messages can sometimes get lost or delayed. If you do not get a reply from your instructor, do not assume that he/she has received your message until you get a reply. When you book a lesson, you do so fully accepting that you will be available to do that lesson and that cancelling within 48 hours will incur the cost of that lesson(s) as a fee.A lesson is of one hour duration. If for any reason outside the instructor’s control, it is not possible to give a full lesson, any lost time will be added to another lesson, in order to make up any lost lesson time. It is the responsibility of the pupil to make sure that this time is claimed.
  5. Your instructor will endeavour to arrive on time however, due to unforeseen circumstances such as breakdown, accidents, and traffic hold ups etc. lesson times may need to change or even be cancelled. If cancelled by your Instructor, no fee will be charged.
  1. Lessons must be paid for in advance or at the time of the lesson by cash or bank transfer. Your instructor will advise you of bank details if you wish to pay by BACS.
  1. You must not be under the influence of drugs/alcohol or be too tired to drive safely during the training. In the event of there being any signs of drugs/alcohol misuse or excessive tiredness, your instructor will withhold the use of the training vehicle for use of tuition or driving test until you are in a legal and fit state to drive. Any prescribed medication that may affect your driving should be declared to the instructor and to the DVLA medical board. Any lesson(s) which is abandoned due to the pupil not being in a fit and proper state to drive safely and legally, will be charged for at the full lesson price and must be paid.
  1. The price paid for the driving test does not include the use of the instructor’s car for the purpose of the test or the 1 hour practise session beforehand. The pupil is free to use any car they wish but which must satisfy test requirements. It is recommended that wherever possible that the pupil uses their instructor’s car for the test.
  2. The pupil should be aware that the instructor’s primary objective is to promote road safety and positive driving practises. It may therefore become necessary during the course of a lesson for the instructor to take control of the vehicle. If this is ever done the pupil will be made aware of what action has been taken and why. Manchester Driving Lessons operates a strict NON CONTACT policy for your comfort and safety; however this policy may be overridden in the interests of safety. Please tell your instructor if you are unhappy with this policy.
  1. The instructor will make every effort to instruct the pupil to the highest standard but can in no way be held liable for any errors that the pupil may make whilst driving and not accompanied by the instructor either before or after a test pass.
  1. The instructor will endeavour to teach the pupil the correct driving skills and techniques, according to the recommended syllabus issued by the DVSA, within the minimum number of lessons required.
  1. Driving tests may only be arranged with the prior agreement of both instructor and pupil.
  1. If you have any complaints, please speak to your instructor, who will deal with your complaint in accordance with the ADI code of practise.
  1. The instructor will accept no liability for accidents, injury or damage to any third party caused by a pupils’ recklessness or wanton disregard for the Highway Code. If a pupil knowingly exceeds a speed limit, passes through a red traffic or pedestrian light or knowingly or negligently breaks a UK road law, then the instructor will pass the pupils details on to the police and will not be held responsible.
  1. Should you fail to reach a satisfactory standard of driving and are likely to be a danger to other road users, or are in an unfit condition through substance or alcohol abuse as described above, the ADI has a responsibility to the DVSA examiners not to allow the use of the training vehicle for the purpose of the driving test. This is in the interest of the pupil, the examiner and other road users and is a precautionary safety measure. Driving Standards Agency guidelines do not allow for a pupil to take a practical test just for the experience.
  1. No responsibility can be taken for tests cancelled by the DVSA for whatever reason. Lessons will have to be paid for but can be claimed back from the DVSA. The instructor cannot be responsible if you fail because of the eyesight test. Your instructor will be responsible if the test is cancelled due to the condition of the tuition vehicle.
  1. Any discount offers that are advertised by Manchester Driving Lessons are discretionary and can be withdrawn at any time without notice. Please refer to our website for full terms and conditions of any current offers.
  1. In accordance with GDPR (General Data Protection Register), there is a necessity for me to obtain, store and process certain confidential personal data from you. This data will be stored on a secure mobile device that is password protected and only I have sole access to it. My assurance to you is that your data will remain confidential and will not be shared or sold to any third party, and will be deleted after you have passed your driving test or your training ceases, unless you state otherwise. As a member of ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) I am required to inform them if there has been a breach of this data (theft or hack) within 72 hours. As a self-employed driving instructor, I need to keep certain data for a seven year period to present to the Inland Revenue upon request. This would include full name, date, amount and method of payment only. There are mobile cameras fitted to my tuition vehicle for your safety and security. The cameras face outwards with no voice recognition and footage would not be published on a public platform. It would be made available to you for training purposes upon request. Camera footage cannot be used as evidence in the event of a test dispute with The DVSA.
